Bagalkot police have arrested four people in connection with the SUV explosion reported near a liquor shop in Hipparagi village of Jamkhandi. The explosion took place late on July 26 outside the Yuvaraj Wine Shop. Police said the SUV belonged to liquor-store operator Hanumantha Sanagond Athani. The vehicle was severely damaged in the blast, while a passing motorcyclist was injured. Investigators later linked the incident to an alleged financial dispute. Police said a farmer had borrowed ₹40 lakh and that the amount had reportedly increased to ₹67 lakh with interest. Investigators suspect the explosion was intended as a warning or intimidation rather than a planned killing. Police said the accused allegedly targeted the vehicle while it was parked outside the shop. A message reportedly sent to the vehicle owner after the incident provided investigators with an important lead. Police traced the phone and examined mobile tower information and CCTV footage. Four suspects were subsequently identified and arrested in neighbouring Vijayapura district. Investigators also recovered material including mobile phones, wires and gelatin sticks during the investigation. Police are continuing to establish the exact roles of the accused in the incident. The case has attracted considerable attention because of the use of explosives in a local financial dispute. Authorities are examining the evidence collected from the crime scene and the suspects. The investigation also highlights the importance of CCTV surveillance and digital evidence in solving serious crimes. Police are expected to submit further details as the investigation progresses. The incident has raised concerns about the use of dangerous methods to settle financial disputes. Authorities have stressed that disputes should be resolved through lawful channels. Further legal proceedings against the arrested persons are expected.
