Police intensified preventive action against habitual offenders across Bagalkot district as part of a wider North Range policing drive. The operation was conducted during July across five districts of northern Karnataka. Police deployed multiple teams to monitor the activities of known offenders and prevent further criminal activity. Nine police teams were deployed in Bagalkot as part of the operation. The wider drive involved 53 teams across Belagavi, Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Dharwad and Gadag districts. Police initiated 148 preventive cases during the month-long campaign. Bagalkot accounted for 20 of these preventive actions. Police also initiated externment proceedings against habitual offenders under the Karnataka Police Act. Ten rowdy-sheeters from Bagalkot were reportedly externed during the operation. Action under the Goonda Act was also taken against two repeat offenders from Bagalkot. The police said the drive was aimed at maintaining law and order and preventing future breaches of peace. Officers monitored individuals considered potential threats to public safety. The campaign also focused on disrupting organised criminal networks. Police said preventive measures were taken before offenders could become involved in further criminal activity. The use of specialised teams allowed police to conduct monitoring at station and sub-divisional levels. The operation reflects an increased focus on preventive policing across northern Karnataka. Bagalkot police are expected to continue monitoring habitual offenders following the campaign. Authorities have indicated that strict legal action will be taken against repeat offenders. Such preventive measures are intended to reduce the possibility of serious crimes occurring in the future. Police also emphasised maintaining public safety and law and order throughout the district.
