A new renewable-energy initiative is bringing solar-powered boating to two major tourist destinations associated with the Bagalkot region. Four boats operating at Almatti’s Silver Lake and Kudalasangama have been fitted with solar-panel roofs. The initiative is aimed at reducing dependence on conventional fuel and promoting environmentally friendly tourism. The boats have been equipped with solar panels, motors and batteries as part of the project. According to the report, 18 solar panels were installed at a cost of about ₹44 lakh. The boats have reportedly been using only minimal quantities of diesel and electricity after the upgrade. Officials and operators expect the system to reduce fuel consumption during regular operations. The project could also help reduce noise and water pollution around the boating areas. Almatti’s Silver Lake has been a popular boating destination for many years. Kudalasangama attracts large numbers of pilgrims and tourists because of its religious and cultural importance. The introduction of solar-powered boats is expected to add an environmentally friendly feature to these destinations. The initiative also provides an opportunity to demonstrate renewable-energy technology to visitors. Solar-powered transportation is increasingly being considered for tourist destinations where regular boating services operate. The project could encourage similar clean-energy initiatives at other tourism locations. Lower fuel consumption may also help reduce operating costs over time. The initiative combines tourism promotion with environmental awareness. Local tourism operators and visitors are expected to benefit from cleaner boating facilities. The project is being viewed as a step towards more sustainable tourism in the region.
